Shelley grew up on the North Side of Pittsburgh. She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and received her Juris Doctorate from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. She is a practicing attorney and is also furthering her music education by attending the prestigious Berklee College of Music's online guitar program. ​

In her spare time, Shelley loves to ski, read and spend time with her off the track Thoroughbred "Laredo".
